Residents of Karachi are facing a deepening water crisis as repeated electricity outages by K‑Electric (KE) have disrupted the operations of the main pumping stations responsible for supplying water.
According to a spokesperson for Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), the crucial K-3 pumping station experienced a major electrical breakdown late last night, following an earlier shutdown earlier this week that lasted approximately 41 hours.
The breakdowns have resulted in an estimated loss of 335 million gallons of water, with many areas including North Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, Scheme 33, various blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Karachi, Saddar and Clifton witnessing severe shortages.
KWSC officials appealed to KE’s management to prioritise the stable restoration of power to these pumping stations in order to bring the supply back to normal.
