The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan has rejected recent foreign media reports identifying a man arrested in Delaware as Pakistani, clarifying that the suspect, Luqmaan Khan, is actually an Afghan national who briefly stayed in Pakistan as a refugee.
The FO statement emphasised that Khan “is not a Pakistani national or of Pakistan origin”; after living in the U.S. for the majority of his life, he was arrested near Wilmington, Delaware on charges stemming from a weapons seizure and alleged plans for potential attacks.
Multiple foreign outlets — including USA Today, New York Post and Hindustan Times — had previously described him as a Pakistan-born U.S. citizen, a claim now directly contradicted by Pakistan’s FO.
The clarification aims to correct international perception and prevent misattribution of nationality in terrorism-related arrests.
