Pakistan has taken delivery of its first-ever crude oil shipment from the United States, as the cargo arrived at Cnergyico PK Limited’s offshore terminal in Balochistan. The Suezmax tanker MT Pegasus docked at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility, marking a milestone in Pakistan-US trade relations.
The deal had been reported in August, when Cnergyico expected to import roughly one million barrels from Vitol SA this month. According to Cnergyico’s vice-chairman, Usama Qureshi, this first shipment will be followed by another around mid-November and a third in January 2026. Together, these cargoes are forecast to improve Pakistan’s trade balance with the US by about US$200 million.
The SPM terminal is Pakistan’s only offshore crude-handling facility. It allows for large vessel access, reduces logistics costs and is expected to enhance the performance of local refinery operations.
By bringing in US crude, Pakistan is diversifying its oil supply sources and strengthening its energy security—while also deepening bilateral trade ties with the United States.
Earlier, in 2023, Cnergyico had become the first private sector company in Pakistan to import Russian crude oil, taking advantage of discounted Russian oil exports.
