Balochistan artefacts return

Italy has handed over ancient artefacts that were stolen from archaeological sites in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, according to a statement issued by the Pakistani Embassy in Rome.

The relics—linked to the early Bronze-Age settlements at Kulli and Naal and estimated to be around 5,000 years old—were seized by Italian authorities and arrived in Pakistan on October 30, 2025.

Over the last 18 years, nearly 100 pieces of smuggled heritage have been repatriated to Pakistan, underscoring the strong cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Embassy lauded the recovery as “an outstanding example of excellent cooperation between two friendly states, both being homes to ancient civilisations and UNESCO sites.”
It also noted the long-standing archaeological partnership, including recognition of Italian scholars and Italy’s mission in Pakistan dating back to 1955.
