Comedian and TV host Tabish Hashmi has responded to the online uproar following his recent interview with Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi.
Hashmi stated that his line of questioning and comments during the interview stemmed from his genuine concern for Karachi rather than any personal disagreement with the mayor. He emphasised that the city’s longstanding challenges—some spanning over 35 years—cannot be pinned solely on the mayor, who has been in office for just one year.
He also praised the mayor’s composure, noting that despite being interrupted, Wahab answered questions with patience and clarity. Hashmi reiterated that he holds respect for public officials and that his aim was to highlight issues facing Karachi—not create controversy.
The interview had gone viral, sparking debate over whether it was a tough-but-needed scrutiny of public service or an overly confrontational exchange.
