The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Karachi and several parts of Sindh will receive rain and thunderstorms starting January 22 as a western weather system approaches the region, meteorologists said on Tuesday. The PMD’s Early Warning Centre said the system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning to Karachi and various districts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as rain-bearing clouds move into the province. The approaching weather system follows a period of dry and foggy conditions over much of the country, and is part of a broader westerly wave expected to affect many regions from January 20 onward.
The PMD also noted that moderate to dense fog may continue over the plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours before the rain arrives.
