Tourism stakeholders in Sindh are urging the provincial government to elevate travel and heritage development to a policy priority. They stress that Sindh’s rich offering — from ancient civilisations and coastal zones to cultural festivals and ecotourism sites — remains severely under-utilised due to weak infrastructure, lack of marketing and limited institutional backing.
Speaking at an event titled “Promoting Spiritual, Cultural and Recreational Tourism in Sindh”, participants from the private travel sector, academia and government advocated for strategic reforms. Among their suggestions: public-private partnerships, dedicated tourism police, a digital marketing push and including tourism education in school curricula to build a future traveller base.
Presenters highlighted Sindh’s assets — three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a 350-kilometre coastline, desert landscapes like the Thar Desert, riverine zones and heritage sites like Mohenjo‑daro and Makli Necropolis. Yet, infrastructure deficits (roads, safety, basic services), low visibility and seasonal tourism habits are holding back growth.
Government ministers pledged support, with the provincial Culture, Tourism & Antiquities minister affirming a commitment to backing private-sector initiatives and ongoing projects such as the expansion of the Gorakh Hill Station and operationalising Thar Airport to boost desert tourism.
