Police in Karachi have detained a suspect alleged to be responsible for the rape and murder of a woman whose tortured body was discovered near the Urban Forest in Clifton this week. The victim — identified as Shehnaz Arshad Gul — had been missing since November 22, when she left home to visit a bazaar.
According to the statements by police officials, during interrogation the accused — a resident of Akhtar Colony known to the victim — confessed that a dispute over money escalated into violence: he said the victim snatched his phone, and in anger he fatally struck her on the head with a large stone.
Subsequent investigation by medico-legal authorities confirmed the body had signs of sexual assault and torture prior to death. Police have recovered the victim’s stolen mobile phone and cash from the suspect. The case remains under active investigation as law-enforcement seeks to confirm motive and whether there were any accomplices.
