Pakistan Railways luxury saloon fare cut

Pakistan Railways has announced substantial cuts to fares for its luxury saloon coaches — a move aimed at making premium travel more accessible to the public.

Under the revised fare structure:

  • The fare from Karachi to Rawalpindi has been reduced from Rs 500,000 to Rs 172,000.
  • The fare from Karachi to Lahore now costs Rs 150,000 (down from Rs 420,000).
  • The fare from Lahore to Rawalpindi has been cut to Rs 44,000 (previously Rs 105,000).

The changes follow directives from the Railways Ministry under Hanif Abbasi. Officials state the reductions are part of a broader strategy to widen access to comfortable, luxurious rail travel — previously reserved for high-level officials.
