Karachi youth dies

Karachi youth dies in SIU custody under suspicious circumstances, sparking outrage and serious allegations of custodial torture. The victim, identified as Muhammad Irfan, reportedly lost his life while being interrogated by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi Police.

According to the FIR and police officials, the case (No. 443/25) was filed at Saddar Police Station under Sections 319 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, covering manslaughter and common intention. The case, however, has been registered on behalf of the state rather than by the victim’s family, intensifying concerns over police transparency.

The complainant in the case is the Station House Officer (SHO) of the SIU. The FIR states that during interrogation, Karachi youth Irfan’s health deteriorated, and he suddenly fell unconscious. At that time, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Abid and Sarfaraz were conducting the questioning.

The complainant claimed that other officers rushed the Karachi youth to a nearby hospital without informing him, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The FIR also noted that the case against the detainees being interrogated was of a “dubious nature,” and six SIU personnel have been named in the case.

Despite the police filing a manslaughter case, the family of the Karachi youth who died in custody has yet to see a murder case registered. They continue to demand justice, urging authorities to take strict action against those responsible for Irfan’s death.
