A court in Karachi has acquitted Mahrang Baloch — leader of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) — in a sedition and terrorism case filed last year.
The case, initiated by police in October 2024, accused her of inciting people against state institutions and public mischief. The presiding Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) found that prosecution evidence was weak: no independent witnesses were presented, and the police testimonies lacked direct knowledge of the alleged incident.
Invoking Section 265-K of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the court ordered her acquittal, noting a “no-probability” of conviction. However — because other cases remain pending — the acquittal does not guarantee her immediate release from custody.
In her past response, Mahrang rejected the charges as “fabricated,” stating they represented discomfort over her activism.
