The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is set to take over the inquiry into a young man’s death in custody of the Special Investigation Unit of the police. A senior police official said the probe will formally shift to the FIA on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Irfan, was arrested on October 22 and a day later his family was informed of his demise. The family alleges he died due to torture, while the police registered a case of negligent homicide and arrested an ASI and a constable. Meanwhile, the Sindh Home Department has ordered a judicial inquiry and forensic examination, and local protesters continue to demand justice outside the morgue.
