The governments of Pakistan and Kuwait have agreed to a US$25 million loan to support the construction of the Mohmand Dam hydropower and water-storage project.
This latest financing is part of a broader commitment by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to contribute towards Pakistan’s water-energy infrastructure.
The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting in Kuwait, where Pakistan underscored the importance of the dam for both flood-control and power generation capabilities, while Kuwait reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s development priorities.
The Mohmand Dam project, once completed, is expected to generate significant electricity and provide much-needed irrigation and flood-mitigation capacity in the north-western region of Pakistan.
