Pakistan ban on Indian planes

Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced a fresh extension of its ban on all Indian-registered aircraft, effective from 2:50 pm Pakistan time on November 19 through to 4:59 am on December 24.

The restriction covers every plane owned, operated or leased by Indian airlines or the Indian military, across both the Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR) Flight Information Regions (FIRs).

This move builds on a dispute between the two countries that triggered the initial closure of Pakistani airspace to Indian carriers in April.

The extended ban is already having significant fallout: Air India reports up-to-three-hour longer flight times and fuel cost jumps reaching 29 percent, with projected losses of nearly US$455 million annually.
