Iran has offered to help ease the growing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan as the two neighbours face mounting security- and border-related challenges. The offer came from Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, during a visit to Islamabad.
In a briefing to the media, Larijani said Iran is ready to cooperate with Pakistan to counter militant activity in the region, and that Tehran supports diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes between Islamabad and Kabul.
He emphasized that Pakistan remains a friendly and brotherly country for Iran, expressing hope that both Pakistan and Afghanistan will soon find solutions to outstanding challenges.
Iran’s intervention follows repeated clashes, mutual accusations and breakdowns in peace-building efforts in recent weeks. The Tehran-led push aims at reviving dialogue and stabilising bilateral relations in a broader regional-security context.
