Valeria Márquez Killed During TikTok Livestream at Jalisco Beauty Salon
Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican beauty influencer, was tragically shot and killed while livestreaming on TikTok from a beauty salon in Zapopan, located in the central Mexican state of Jalisco. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, was confirmed by local authorities the following day.
The shocking killing of Valeria Márquez has rattled Mexico, a country already battling widespread cartel violence and alarmingly high rates of femicide. According to reports, Márquez was interacting with someone—believed to be a delivery man—off-camera during her livestream when she was suddenly shot in the chest and head. She died instantly, still holding a stuffed toy she had been showing to her followers.
The beauty salon where the attack took place is situated on the outskirts of Guadalajara, a region known to be under heavy influence from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Media outlets suggest the gunman may have posed as someone delivering a gift to get close to the influencer.
Just hours after the killing of Valeria Márquez, a separate shooting claimed the life of Luis Armando Córdova Díaz, a former congressman from the PRI party, at a café in the same vicinity—raising concerns about escalating violence in the region.
Authorities are currently investigating the murder of Valeria Márquez as a suspected femicide, a gender-based crime that remains a pressing issue in many parts of Latin America. Officials have yet to confirm a motive, but the case has drawn national and international attention due to its brutal nature and the influencer’s online presence.
