Sesame Street

Sesame Street is making a big move to Netflix, changing where fans can watch the beloved children’s show. After five years on HBO Max, the series is now joining Netflix with exclusive global streaming rights starting from Season 56, which is set to premiere later this year.

This new deal not only gives Netflix access to over 90 hours of past episodes but also paves the way for new Sesame Street-themed video games, including those based on the spinoff Mecha Builders. Despite this shift, viewers in the U.S. won’t miss out—new episodes will continue to air simultaneously on PBS and PBS Kids, maintaining the long-running partnership between Sesame Workshop and PBS.

Sesame Workshop hailed the agreement as an innovative collaboration between Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The organization highlighted its ongoing commitment to nurturing kids’ growth by helping them become “smarter, stronger, and kinder.”

Season 56 promises a fresh approach, featuring episodes that each center on a single 11-minute story. This format sharpens the focus on character-driven storytelling with a good dose of humor. Fans will also get to enjoy a new animated segment called Tales From 123, which offers a glimpse into the daily lives of familiar characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster at their iconic 123 Sesame Street apartment building.

Favorites like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will be back, alongside new segments such as Cookie Monster’s Cookie Cart and Abby’s Fairy Garden.

Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings return as executive producers, while Halcyon Person joins as head writer. Person brings experience from other Netflix kids’ series like Karma’s World and Dee & Friends in Oz.

Netflix also pointed out that children’s programming remains a vital part of its offerings, making up about 15% of total viewing time.
