Charlie Dean

Charlie Dean, England all-rounder, has stressed that her team will not underestimate Bangladesh as both sides gear up for their second league-stage match at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in Guwahati. With England crushing South Africa by 10 wickets and Bangladesh stunning Pakistan by seven, Charlie Dean believes the fixture will be a true test between two in-form sides.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Charlie Dean said England’s thorough preparation has been key. “We’ve come out of a preparation camp in Dubai where we trained in 48-degree conditions. Before the World Cup, we had a lot of time to practice, both batters and bowlers. Fifty-over cricket brings its own challenges in heat and humidity, especially here in Guwahati, so we’ve worked hard on adapting,” she explained.

England’s spinners have already made an impact, with Linsey Smith’s match-winning spell against South Africa standing out. Dean, herself a vital spinner, praised her teammate. “She’s brilliant with the new ball, gets that bit of drift, and challenges batters’ defenses,” said Charlie Dean. “She’s an exceptional bowler and definitely one to watch.”

Having stepped into a leadership role during England’s dominant win, Charlie Dean also discussed her evolving responsibilities. “Being a sounding board for Nat is my main role—it doesn’t change too much,” she said. “We’ve created a structured leadership group to support Nat through the World Cup. She leads from the front, and I’m there to help with on-field decisions and team coordination when needed.”

Despite England’s strong start, Charlie Dean remains wary of Bangladesh’s strength. The Asian side, in only their second ODI World Cup, impressed with both bat and ball. “Marufa Akter swings the ball early, and they’ve got plenty of spin options. We’re not taking Bangladesh lightly at all,” Dean emphasized.

Charlie Dean also acknowledged the consistency of Bangladesh’s bowling attack. “Their bowlers have been the most economical in the past 18 months—it’s impressive,” Charlie Dean said. “We’re taking every match as it comes.”

As England look to maintain momentum in their World Cup campaign, Charlie Dean’s composure and leadership will be crucial. With both teams full of confidence, the Guwahati clash promises to be a gripping contest between two sides eager to prove their dominance.
