The 35th National Games officially began in Karachi with a grand, colourful opening ceremony at the National Stadium Karachi — marking the event’s return to the city after nearly two decades.
Thousands of spectators, athletes, officials and dignitaries filled the stadium as the event got underway. The highlight came when Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem — joined by former hockey great Islahuddin Siddiqui — lit the torch, symbolising unity, competitive spirit, and hope for the games ahead.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chief guest of the ceremony, declared the Games open, joined by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, sports officials, and members of national sports federations.
The opening featured a march-past of all participating contingents, athletes’ oath, musical performances, a laser light show and fireworks — blending sport with culture and celebration.
With competitions across 26 venues citywide and nearly 11,000 athletes from across Pakistan registered, anticipation is high for a week of intense competition and national-level athletic showcase.
