Ziarat Hassan Shah Island eco-tourism hub

The federal government has announced plans to develop Ziarat Hassan Shah Island into a major eco-tourism hub, aiming to promote nature-based tourism and economic opportunities in the coastal region near Karachi. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the initiative is part of broader efforts to expand sustainable tourism and leverage Pakistan’s natural coastal assets.

Chaudhry explained that the development project will focus on environmentally responsible infrastructure and amenities that attract domestic and international visitors while preserving the island’s ecological balance. The plan includes improving access, establishing facilities for tourists and coordinating with local authorities to ensure conservation standards are met.

The minister noted that eco-tourism is seen as a driver for job creation, regional growth and community engagement, and that the government is committed to balancing development with environmental protection to showcase Pakistan’s coastal biodiversity.
