Rabies deaths rise to five in Karachi

Two more people have died of rabies in Karachi, bringing the city’s death toll to five, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The latest victims included an elderly man from Lyari and a young girl from Mirpurkhas, neither of whom received anti-rabies vaccinations after being bitten by dogs. Both developed classical rabies symptoms such as hydrophobia, restlessness and breathing difficulties before dying in hospital. Health authorities say a rise in stray dog attacks and low vaccination rates are worsening the public health situation, and urge immediate wound cleansing and post-exposure vaccination to prevent the fatal disease.
