Police Ordered to Probe PTI Official’s Charges Against Lawyers

HYDERABAD:

In a dramatic twist of events, a PTI official’s battle for justice has shaken Hyderabad’s legal corridors. Arzoo Faisal Hassan, Union Council Chairperson and a known figure within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has filed explosive allegations against two prominent lawyers — Waqas Ahmed Sheikh and Shakeel Ahmed Abbasi. What started as a routine protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk quickly spiralled into a troubling personal and political crisis.

The model criminal trial court didn’t hesitate. After reviewing the petition, the judge directed the SHO of the B-Section police station in Latifabad to formally record the PTI official’s statement and act according to law. The request was simple: investigate thoroughly and without bias.

During the hearing, the PTI official’s legal counsel shared a disturbing timeline. It began during her arrest at the protest, where co-accused Advocate Sheikh was also detained. According to Arzoo, while she clearly identified herself as the wife of Faisal Mughal, Sheikh allegedly claimed he was her husband — a lie that would fuel the unfolding legal drama.

But the story didn’t end there. The PTI official’s petition reveals that this false narrative was bolstered by a fabricated resolution passed by the Sindh High Court Bar Association, labelling her as Sheikh’s spouse. The emotional and reputational toll, she says, was immense — disrupting her family life and tarnishing her professional image.

Then came the most serious allegation. On January 12, 2025, both accused reportedly lured her to Unit No. 6, Latifabad, where Advocate Sheikh allegedly attempted to rape and murder her. She escaped, sought medical help, and obtained a medico-legal certificate — yet, shockingly, police refused to file an FIR. The PTI official’s legal team claims that the accused’s influence as lawyers may have prevented immediate action.

Despite formal complaints submitted to the Sindh Bar Council, Sindh High Court Bar Association, and the District Bar Association Hyderabad, no disciplinary response followed. The PTI official’s narrative also includes claims of sexual abuse, threats, and coercion into a contract marriage — allegations that paint a grim picture of systemic silence.

Documents presented to the court — including medical records, police reports, and press clippings — added weight to the PTI official’s petition. In response, reports from the SP Complaint Cell and SHOs of B-Section and Hali Road police stations were filed as part of the official record.

After reviewing the facts, the court acknowledged the gravity of the situation. The judge emphasized that a female public representative like the PTI official deserves robust legal protection, especially when facing harassment and intimidation allegedly from within her own political circle.

In a significant move, the court instructed the local SHOs and the SSP Hyderabad to ensure her safety and pursue the matter with full legal authority.

This case isn’t just about a PTI official’s personal struggle. It’s a reflection of the broader need for transparent investigations, especially when power and politics intertwine with justice. As this story unfolds, it continues to raise difficult questions — and highlight the courage it takes to demand answers.
