A major corruption scandal has erupted in Karachi after allegations surfaced that police officers sold seized narcotics back to drug traffickers instead of destroying them, prompting official action and public outrage. According to reports, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi police had confiscated narcotics worth an estimated Rs28 crore, but a significant portion was allegedly resold for about Rs5 crore to dealers, undermining anti-narcotics efforts and raising serious accountability concerns.
The Sindh home ministry has expressed anger and ordered a formal inquiry, and senior officers including a DSP and a sub-inspector have been suspended pending investigation. A committee led by the DIG has been formed to examine the matter further, and more arrests may follow as the probe continues into possible police involvement in the drug resale.
