Milk prices in Karachi will remain unchanged for now, according to a notification from the Commissioner’s office. Retail price will stay at Rs 220 per litre.
The new rate structure adjusts upstream pricing: dairy-farmers will now be paid Rs 200 per litre, while the wholesale price has been set at Rs 208 per litre — modest increases of Rs 5 and Rs 3 respectively.
This decision comes amid rising calls from dairy producers — earlier this year they demanded increases, citing higher costs for fodder, electricity and operations across the supply chain.
Authorities say the price freeze is intended to shield consumers from abrupt inflationary pressure, while maintaining a balance between affordability and sustainability for dairy producers.
