The city of Karachi has introduced its first designated ambulance lane to improve emergency-vehicle access and reduce delays. The new dedicated corridor is located on Mansfield Street in the busy Saddar area — a commercial hub known for heavy congestion.
Officials, led by the deputy commissioner of District South, stated that the lane became possible after an anti-encroachment operation cleared illegal structures that had blocked the road.
The administration indicated that the priority of this measure is to ensure smooth and uninterrupted ambulance passage during critical situations, with plans to roll out similar dedicated lanes on other major roads across District South.
Residents and emergency-response advocates have welcomed the initiative — marking it as a significant step toward improving urban emergency infrastructure in Karachi, where traffic congestion often hinders timely access for ambulances.
