The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has confirmed that gas supplies have returned to normal across its service areas after restoring approximately 25–30 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas that had been curtailed due to demand pressure and extreme winter conditions. The utility said gas pressures significantly improved between early morning and late evening, particularly in Karachi and surrounding regions.
SSGC explained that the system had come under stress earlier this month as a cold wave increased demand and winter conditions in Balochistan forced the company to divert supplies to meet critical needs in that province. To protect human lives amid freezing temperatures, it increased supplies to Balochistan from 80 mmcfd to 180 mmcfd, while managing reduced input from some gas fields and arranging additional RLNG supplies to stabilise the network.
To meet the shortfall, SSGC also took emergency measures, including curtailing supplies to industrial and fertiliser sectors and implementing Sunday shutoffs for certain operations. With the restored volumes, officials said the overall system balance has improved and supply conditions are now being monitored round-the-clock to address any remaining low-pressure complaints.
