A video circulated on social media shows a young girl falling into an open manhole in Karachi. Authorities say the incident appears to have taken place in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area; police are currently verifying the timing and details via CCTV and further investigation.
This follows closely after the tragic death of a 3-year old boy, Ibrahim, who recently fell into an uncovered manhole near Nipa Chowrangi — his body was recovered after 14–15 hours of search efforts.
The recurrence of such incidents has reignited public outrage over the dangerously poor state of the city’s drainage infrastructure, alleged administrative negligence, and lack of basic safety measures such as manhole covers or barriers.
Residents and social-media users have criticised both civic authorities and parents for failing to ensure safety, warning the public that open manholes remain a serious, city-wide hazard — especially for children.
