Security around Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi has been placed on high alert as authorities enforce a major police and anti-riot deployment amid ongoing demonstrations by Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) supporters.
More than 700 police personnel, including officers from 12 police stations (SHOs), women staff, and anti-riot units, have been stationed around the facility. Security pickets were established on five routes leading to the jail; deployments run in two 12-hour shifts and include riot-control gear such as tear-gas launchers, rubber bullets, shields and batons.
Traffic police have also deployed ten officers with a lifter to manage traffic flow in surrounding areas during the heightened security operation. The guard force of the jail will remain on standby after their court-duty hours end.
This security posture follows sustained sit-ins by PTI supporters — triggered by rumours surrounding the health of jailed party founder Imran Khan and repeated attempts to obtain a meeting with him. Authorities have pledged to maintain tight security until the situation stabilises.
