Sydney Sweeney is finally giving fans an exciting update on her highly anticipated Barbarella remake. Announced in 2022, Sweeney is set to star in and produce the reboot of the 1968 sci-fi cult classic originally led by Jane Fonda. Now, with director Edgar Wright attached, the project is steadily moving forward.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Sydney Sweeney revealed she recently traveled to London for a Barbarella production meeting. “It’s a long process… but it’s going to come together in a very, very fun and big way,” she shared.
While fans eagerly await the remake, Sydney Sweeney has stayed busy. She starred in Madame Web, the hit rom-com Anyone but You, and the horror film Immaculate. Coming in 2025, she’ll appear in Eden, Echo Valley, The Housemaid, and a Christy Martin boxing biopic, alongside filming Euphoria Season 3.
Despite past failed Barbarella remakes, this version—led by Sydney Sweeney and Edgar Wright—shows real promise. With Wright’s The Running Man set for late 2024, work on Barbarella may soon begin.
