Sophie Kinsella, the bestselling British novelist behind the beloved Confessions of a Shopaholic series has died at age 55 after a battle with brain cancer. Geo News+1

Her family shared that she died peacefully on December 10, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She had been diagnosed in late 2022 with an aggressive form of brain cancer (glioblastoma), a fact she publicly disclosed in April 2024.

Sophie Kinsella — real name Madeleine Wickham was previously a financial journalist before reinventing herself as a novelist. Her first Shopaholic novel, published in 2000, turned her into an international phenomenon; over her career she wrote more than 30 books, with global sales exceeding 45 million copies.

Her work brought humor, relatability, and lighthearted romance to readers worldwide  and inspired a 2009 film adaptation of the first two Shopaholic books.
