Kathleen Kennedy, the long-serving president of Lucasfilm, has officially announced her resignation after leading the iconic Star Wars studio for nearly 14 years. Kennedy, a veteran American film producer, confirmed that she began discussions about her planned departure with Disney executives roughly two years ago and will step down from the company’s top leadership role to focus on producing films.
Under Kennedy’s stewardship since 2012, Lucasfilm expanded significantly, producing blockbuster films, launching acclaimed television series, and broadening the Star Wars universe across multiple platforms. She played a central role in guiding the franchise through a period of both commercial success and creative debate among fans.
Following her exit, creative lead Dave Filoni—known for his work on The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects will assume the role of President and Chief Creative Officer. He will share leadership responsibilities with Lynwen Brennan, who has been appointed Co-President and brings decades of experience from within Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic. Both executives will guide the company into its next phase, continuing development of upcoming films and series within the Star Wars franchise.
