The government has unveiled a Rs100 billion expansion plan for Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, aiming to significantly boost its capacity and infrastructure to accommodate future growth in passenger and cargo traffic. According to sources, the comprehensive plan includes the construction of a new terminal building, establishment of a modern cargo village, upgrades to operational facilities, and other supporting infrastructure improvements.
Officials said the expansion is designed with a 10-year outlook on increasing air traffic, ensuring that the airport can handle projected demand and enhance its status as a major aviation hub in South Asia. The project is expected to address current capacity constraints while preparing for future needs, including improved passenger services, expanded cargo handling, additional aircraft parking bays, and modernised support systems.
The plan comes as part of broader efforts to develop Pakistan’s airport infrastructure, following ongoing upgrades such as runway reconstruction and facility improvements already underway at Karachi’s international gateway. If implemented as envisioned, the Rs100 billion initiative would mark one of the most ambitious infrastructure investments in the nation’s aviation sector in recent years.
