Thunderstorm forecast for Sindh has once again stirred both excitement and caution as overcast skies loomed over Karachi on Saturday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and thunderstorms for Sunday, thanks to a fresh surge of monsoon currents making their way into the province.
According to the PMD, Karachi is likely to experience mostly cloudy weather with increasing chances of showers. A department spokesperson confirmed, “There are strong possibilities of thunderstorm activity in Karachi on Sunday.”
But it’s not just the coastal city. The thunderstorm forecast for Sindh points to widespread rainfall expected across several districts as strong monsoon winds continue to move inland.
Heavy to moderate rainfall is likely in Ghotki, Khairpur, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot. The forecast extends to desert districts like Tharparkar and coastal belts such as Badin, Thatta, and Sujawal. Urban centers like Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Matiari are also on the radar.
Further north, thunderstorm forecast for Sindh includes downpours in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Naushero Feroze is expected to get a decent spell of rain, while Qambar Shahdadkot might see intermittent showers. Light to moderate rainfall is also predicted to persist in Jamshoro throughout Sunday.
However, while the rain brings relief from the sweltering summer heat, it also carries a warning. The PMD has cautioned about possible urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas of rural Sindh.
“There is a real threat of damage to fragile structures like mud houses, electric poles, and even vehicles and solar panels, due to intense weather conditions,” the alert read.
As the thunderstorm forecast for Sindh becomes a reality, residents are advised to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and protect their homes and assets from potential waterlogging and storm-related damage.
This weekend, Sindh awaits the monsoon’s embrace—one that refreshes the land but demands respect in return.
