The Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, has ordered the suspension of five senior municipal and administrative officials following the tragic death of a three-year-old child, Ibrahim, who fell into an open manhole near NIPA Chowrangi, Karachi.
The suspension orders target the following officials: Imran Rajput (Senior Director of Municipal Services, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation), Rashid Fayyaz (Assistant Engineer, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Municipal Corporation), Waqar Ahmed (Executive Engineer, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation), Amir Ali Shah (Assistant Commissioner, Gulshan-e-Iqbal), and Salman Farsi (Mukhtiarkar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal).
At a meeting convened to discuss the NIPA incident, attended by provincial ministers, municipal authorities, town administration, revenue officials, and police representatives, the Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow and called for strict accountability for any negligence.
The official inquiry follows widespread public outrage over the death, which renewed scrutiny of the city’s deteriorating drainage infrastructure, recurring problem of uncovered manholes, and perceived negligence of civic authorities.
Sindh’s Local Government Department has been instructed to act immediately and submit a report on disciplinary proceedings against any officials found responsible.
