A Rs2 billion financial irregularity has cost the Regional Directorate of Archaeology (RDA) Sindh chief her posting, with provincial authorities removing her from the position amid an administrative inquiry into the scandal. According to officials, the probe found systemic lapses in project oversight, contract management and fund utilisation within the directorate, leading to the dismissal decision as part of efforts to enforce accountability in public agencies.
The inquiry initiated after complaints over delayed heritage conservation projects and alleged financial mismanagement identified irregularities amounting to Rs2 billion in approvals, procurements and expenditure related to RDA’s capital works. Provincial administration spokespersons said that while the investigation is ongoing, action against responsible officials will continue, and additional disciplinary measures could follow based on further findings.
The removal comes amid broader scrutiny of governance and transparency in development bodies within Sindh, where questions have been raised about project execution standards and financial controls. Authorities have emphasised that the decision reflects a commitment to curbing economic mismanagement and ensuring greater oversight of public funds. Efforts to contact the former RDA chief for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
