The government of Punjab Government has announced a 15-day suspension of enforcement of the Punjab Traffic Ordinance 2025 after negotiations with major transporters.
The decision came after a large-scale strike by public and goods transporters protesting steep fines and strict penalties under the new law. Under the agreement, the ordinance’s application on commercial transport has been temporarily halted while the government reviews transporter concerns.
One major transporters’ association, Pakistan Mini Mazda Association, ended its strike following the government’s assurance; however, another group, Pakistan Mini Mazda Goods Transport Association, refused to resume operations pending a formal written guarantee.
Authorities said further consultations will be held to amend the ordinance or adjust enforcement mechanisms to address grievances about excessive fines, licensing difficulties and unfair penalties.
