Karachi mall fire deaths

The death toll from a massive fire at Gul Plaza shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan has risen to at least 14 fatalities, authorities confirmed on January 19, 2026, as rescue efforts continue amid ongoing search operations. Officials reported that more bodies were recovered after the blaze, which began late on January 17 and took nearly 36 hours to bring under control due to the intensity of the fire and hazardous conditions inside the multi-storey commercial complex. More than 50 people remain missing as police and emergency teams use mobile phone data and family reports to trace their whereabouts. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori described the large number of missing individuals as “extremely alarming” and indicated the incident has become a national tragedy. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and concerns have been raised about the building’s safety and structural stability following the inferno.
