Karachi first Digital Health Centre telemedicine

The federal government has inaugurated Karachi’s first Digital Health Centre, marking a major step in bringing telemedicine-based healthcare services to the city. Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal opened the facility at the Federal Government Dispensary in the Civil Aviation Colony, highlighting the initiative’s potential to address gaps in the traditional health system.

At the launch event, Kamal said the centre will offer live video consultations with doctors — including specialists based abroad — allowing patients to receive professional medical guidance without travelling to larger hospitals. He noted that free medicines will also be provided to those who attend, making affordable care more accessible.

Officials emphasised that the digital health initiative is designed to reduce pressure on tertiary care hospitals by enabling treatment for complex conditions such as breast, liver and lung cancer at a community level. The project forms part of the broader Federal Healthcare Digitalization Programme, which aims to modernise primary healthcare, strengthen preventive care and expand telemedicine services across Pakistan.
