Police in Karachi have arrested a father, identified as Iqbal, and his son, Yaseen, after the bodies of three women — Iqbal’s wife (Samina), their daughter (Samreen) and daughter-in-law (Maha) — were discovered in their Gulshan-e-Iqbal apartment.
Investigators say the family had arranged a mass suicide, driven by dire financial stress. According to the local SHO, the plan was for Iqbal to take his own life last — but he lost his nerve.
Police recovered a suicide note in which Maha apologized to her brothers for marrying against their wishes and requested burial alongside her husband.
At the flat, authorities found rat poison in liquid form and strips of sleeping pills; four letters written by Iqbal outlined burial instructions and details about the family’s debts.
The family reportedly owed more than Rs 12.5 million and was facing eviction from their residence. After initial homicide charges under Section 302, authorities said the case will likely be updated to reflect attempted murder and suicide-related provisions.
