KARACHI, September 25, 2026 — Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Munem Zafar Khan has announced plans to establish protest camps at more than 25 locations across Karachi, with the party continuing its campaign against the petroleum levy and prolonged power outages.
Protest Camps Planned at More Than 25 Locations
According to the report, JI will set up protest camps across different parts of Karachi as part of its wider campaign over fuel prices and the petroleum levy.
The announcement was made by JI Karachi chief Munem Zafar during a press conference in the city. The party has been conducting protests and sit-ins against the levy as part of a nationwide campaign.
JI Demands Withdrawal of Petroleum Levy
Munem Zafar said the petroleum levy was adding to the financial pressure faced by ordinary citizens and contributing to higher living costs.
JI has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of the levy. The party’s nationwide protest movement has included sit-ins in Karachi and other cities, with its leadership maintaining that the campaign will continue until its demands are addressed.
Party Raises Concerns Over Power Outages
The JI Karachi chief also criticised prolonged electricity outages in the city. He alleged that some areas were experiencing power cuts lasting up to 18 hours.
He called on K-Electric to address the issue and argued that consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills should not face extended outages because of defaults elsewhere. These figures and claims were made by the JI leadership and have not been independently established in the report.

The latest announcement follows weeks of JI protests against the petroleum levy and inflation. The party has held demonstrations and sit-ins at multiple locations across Pakistan and recently launched a train march from Karachi toward Islamabad.
