Petrol Price Falls by Rs0.84
The government reduced the petrol price by Rs0.84 per litre, bringing it down from Rs390.12 to Rs389.28.
The latest reduction took effect on Friday and reflects changes in international fuel benchmarks, premiums and other costs included in Pakistan’s petroleum pricing mechanism.
Diesel Price Drops by Rs2.63
High-speed diesel saw a larger reduction of Rs2.63 per litre. Its price fell from Rs414.75 to Rs412.12 per litre.
Diesel prices are particularly important for Pakistan’s transport, agriculture and logistics sectors because of their widespread use in commercial vehicles and machinery.
Fuel Still Far Above Pre-War Levels
Despite the latest reductions, fuel prices remain considerably higher than they were before the conflict began.
Before the fighting, petrol was priced at Rs266.17 per litre, while diesel cost Rs280.86. Compared with those levels, current petrol prices are about 46% higher and diesel prices about 47% higher.
Global Energy Markets Continue to Affect Pakistan
Pakistan imports a large share of its petroleum requirements, making domestic fuel prices sensitive to international oil markets and disruptions affecting regional shipping.
According to the Petroleum Ministry, recent price adjustments reflect global developments, including changes in Platts rates, premiums and incidental costs.
Targeted Fuel Relief Scheme Offers Limited Support
The government has also introduced a targeted fuel relief programme for eligible motorcycle and rickshaw users and owners of cars with engines up to 800cc.
Under the scheme, qualifying users can receive a Rs100-per-litre discount on limited quantities of petrol. The officially announced prices of Rs389.28 for petrol and Rs412.12 for diesel are before the targeted relief is applied.
