A District and Sessions Court in Karachi has revoked the interim bail of Liaquat Mehsud, head of the Dumper Association, in a case stemming from rioting and gunfire following a deadly dumper-truck accident in the Garden Area on November 3.
The court cited clear video evidence of armed gunfire and acts of terror, noting that Mehsud’s guard was seen firing a weapon whose licence had already expired in October — making the weapon invalid under anti-terrorism provisions applied in the case.
According to the case records, a dumper knocked down a tailor named Shahzaib and injured his wife, after which the crowd set the truck ablaze. Mehsud allegedly arrived at the scene to aid the driver, and as his vehicle was stoned, his guards discharged weapon fire at the crowd.
Two FIRs were registered at Garden Police Station: one by the victim’s family invoking charges under Sections 320 and 337-G of the Pakistan Penal Code, plus driving under influence; the other by a social activist, accusing Mehsud and his guards of riot, unlawful gathering and possessing deadly weapons.
With the bail revoked, Mehsud and his guards remain in custody as the court proceedings unfold under terrorism-linked statutes.
