Sardar Abdul Rahim, the Grand Democratic Alliance’s (GDA) Information Secretary, has accused corrupt elites of orchestrating the recent wheat crisis to fill their pockets.
Despite substantial local output, the interim government’s plan to purchase extra wheat has prompted considerable criticism, with many seeing it as a negative move in light of diminishing foreign exchange reserves.
Rahim underlined that this alleged scam not only wastes valuable foreign cash, but also undermines the efforts of the country’s farmers and growers. Unfortunately, wheat producers are apparently receiving less than half of the anticipated purchase price, worsening their situation.
In response, the GDA’s Information Secretary expressed solidarity with Sindhi farmers and promised full support for any rallies against the wheat issue. Sardar Abdul Rahim, also the Secretary General of the Pakistan Muslim League Functional Sindh, emphasized the urgent need to break the cycle of exploitation that farmers face. Despite their tireless labor, farmers frequently fail to receive adequate pay for their crop.
Rahim encouraged Sindh’s officials to protect farmers from exploitation by quickly creating purchasing centers around the province and ensuring they receive official assistance, such as gunny sacks. He warned that failure to address these complaints will cause farmers to take to the streets in protest of government indifference and unethical behavior.
