Heavy winter rainfall and strong winds struck multiple areas of Karachi on Thursday, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and marking a significant shift in the city’s weather pattern as winter progresses. The downpour began under the influence of an active westerly weather system, with showers reported in Surjani Town, North Karachi, Musharraf Colony, Malir, Ahsanabad, Dalmia, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and the Buffer Zone, while light rain was observed in PECHS.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain and gusty winds over the coming days and warned that temperatures could fall further, with minimums expected to dip to between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius as the system persists through the weekend. Strong winds of 25–40 km/h and the potential for hail in some areas have also been predicted, prompting city authorities and electricity provider K-Electric to advise residents to use caution during the unsettled weather.
