Barcelona Considered Marmol Return
Mika Marmol developed through Barcelona’s youth system before moving to Andorra. In 2023, he joined Las Palmas in a deal that allowed the Canary Islands club to sign him without a transfer fee.
As part of the agreement, Barcelona retained 50% of any future transfer fee involving the defender. Marmol also had a reported €10 million release clause, meaning Barcelona could effectively bring him back for about €5 million.
According to Ramírez, the possibility of Marmol returning to Barcelona became serious in January 2026. The Las Palmas president said the club believed the transfer could happen before Barcelona ultimately changed their plans.
Marmol Was Left Surprised by Barcelona’s Decision
Ramírez also indicated that Marmol was aware of Barcelona’s interest and was surprised when the proposed move failed to materialize.
The defender remained at Las Palmas for the rest of the season before moving to Feyenoord during the summer transfer window.
Marmol had attracted attention because of his versatility. The former Barcelona academy player can operate as both a centre-back and left-back, giving him the ability to cover multiple defensive positions.
Marmol Now Plays for Feyenoord
After leaving Las Palmas, Marmol joined Feyenoord in the Netherlands. He has already faced Barcelona again, representing the Dutch club against Hansi Flick’s team in the Champions League.
Barcelona ultimately opted for a different solution during the January window, with the club bringing in João Cancelo on loan, according to the report.
For now, Marmol’s career has taken him away from Barcelona, although his previous connection with the club means his name could continue to appear in transfer discussions in the future.
