Government Announces New Petroleum Rates
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism.
The Petroleum Division said the latest adjustment reflects developments in international energy markets, including changes in Platts benchmark rates, premiums and other associated costs.
The revised rates are applicable for October 13, following the government’s move towards more frequent petroleum price adjustments.
Why Have Petrol and Diesel Prices Changed?
Petroleum prices in Pakistan are influenced by international fuel markets, import costs and other pricing factors.
The latest revision comes amid continued uncertainty in global oil markets, particularly following security developments in the Middle East.
International crude oil prices increased on Monday as attacks in Saudi Arabia raised concerns about potential supply disruptions.
Brent crude futures rose approximately 2% to $106.76 per barrel during trading, while US West Texas Intermediate crude reached $93.69 per barrel, according to market figures reported on October 12.
Petrol Price Cut Offers Limited Relief to Motorists
The Rs2.93 reduction in petrol prices provides modest relief to motorcycle riders, car owners and other consumers who depend on petrol for daily transportation.
For example, a motorist purchasing 40 litres of petrol would save approximately Rs117.20 compared with the previous rate.
However, the increase in high-speed diesel prices could slightly raise operating expenses for commercial transporters, agricultural machinery operators and businesses using diesel-powered equipment.
Diesel is widely used in freight transportation, making its price an important factor in the cost of moving goods across the country.
Previous Petrol and Diesel Price Revision
Before the latest announcement, the government had reduced petrol prices by Re0.66 per litre on October 10, bringing the rate to Rs398.30.
During the same revision, high-speed diesel increased by Re0.52 per litre to Rs396.24.
Those rates remained effective from October 10 to October 12, before the latest adjustment took effect.
