Woman Raped by SHO in Mirpurkhas: Officer Suspended, FIR Lodged After Outrage
HYDERABAD: — A shocking case involving a woman raped by SHO in Mirpurkhas has stirred anger and raised serious concerns about police integrity. The 24-year-old woman from Punjab went to the Mehran Police Station for help in regaining custody of her daughter. Instead, she says the officer in charge assaulted her.
According to sources, Mirpurkhas police filed an FIR on Saturday against SHO Mir Khadim Talpur of Mehran Police Station. The complaint also mentioned ASI Faisal Mahar, who allegedly helped in the crime. Soon after the report, officials suspended the SHO. The judicial magistrate granted a four-day physical remand for Mahar, while Talpur fled and remains missing.
In her statement, the victim said she had contacted the police to recover her daughter, Alisha, who lives with her ex-husband in Umerkot. She alleged that SHO Talpur made false promises of help and then took her to a secret location, where he sexually assaulted her. Later, an unknown driver returned her to the police station.
After her report, SSP Sumer Noor Channa confirmed the SHO’s suspension and Mahar’s arrest. Police also collected DNA samples from both the accused and the complainant and sent them to Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, for testing. Investigators also seized the SHO’s clothes, which he allegedly wore during the assault, for forensic analysis.
Doctors at Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas found no visible injuries in the initial report. However, officials said the final conclusion will come after the forensic results.
DSP Aslam Jagirani, who leads the inquiry, said the woman had earlier approached the DIG Mirpurkhas for help in recovering her daughter. He explained that the SHO failed twice to retrieve the child and later misused her contact details to summon her to the station at night. The police are also checking the driver’s role in the incident.
The case of the woman raped by SHO in Mirpurkhas has deeply shaken the community. Residents are demanding strict punishment for those involved. Officials have promised a transparent inquiry and quick justice for the victim.
