In Karachi’s Mauripur area, police shot and killed two suspected robbers during a raid that escalated into an armed ‘encounter’ with law enforcement, officials said on Tuesday. The incident unfolded in Budeni Goth near Marwat Coach Stand, where a team from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted a targeted operation, leading to a gunbattle with the suspects who opened fire on officers.
Police identified the deceased as Mohammed Bilal and Naqash, both of whom were reported to have prior criminal records involving murder and dacoities and had been arrested multiple times in the past, according to SIU Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Mohammed Imran Khan. Authorities recovered two pistols and a motorcycle from the site of the encounter.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Karachi police to confront violent crime and organised robbery in the city’s troubled neighbourhoods. Law enforcement officials maintain that the suspects were armed and initiated the exchange of fire, which resulted in their deaths during the confrontation.
