According to a report by the US-based foreign policy magazine The Diplomat, 2025 marked a year in which Pakistan regained significant global attention after several years of relative marginalisation. The publication described 2025 as a period of strategic repositioning for Pakistan, driven by assertive security policy, renewed regional engagement and cautious economic reforms.
The Diplomat highlighted the role of Pakistan’s military leadership in reshaping international perceptions, including clearer messaging on countering extremism and strengthening internal discipline, which addressed longstanding concerns among global observers. The report cited the military clashes with India in May 2025 as a pivotal event that drew sustained international focus, reinforcing discussions among defence analysts about regional stability and deterrence.
The magazine also pointed to improved diplomatic dynamics, noting a perceived enhancement of Pakistan–US relations following the standoff, along with increased defence cooperation with Middle Eastern partners such as Saudi Arabia — described as strategic advancements that contributed to Pakistan’s elevated profile. Despite economic challenges, The Diplomat suggested that favourable global conditions and deliberate state actions helped bring Pakistan back onto the world stage in 2025.
