Transport unions across Pakistan have announced a nationwide strike on Friday, December 19, planning a complete wheel-jam shutdown to protest against what they describe as excessive traffic fines, challans and vehicle impoundments imposed under recent enforcement policies. The All Pakistan Transport Federation, inter-city and inter-district associations, goods transporters and student shuttle services are among the groups taking part.
They warn that buses, wagons, goods carriers and public transport will halt operations from Khyber to Karachi, affecting passengers, cargo, marketplaces, factories, banks, petrol pumps and supply chains nationwide. Union leaders say the strike will continue until authorities withdraw the newly introduced traffic fine system and have criticised the government for failing to address their concerns despite earlier assurances. Passengers and businesses are being advised to plan ahead for potential disruptions on December 19.
